Find Good in Everything

Many tend to see a half-filled glass as half empty rather than half full. When looking at a situation, the popular tendency is to think about the bad side rather than the good. There is an instructive story regarding the character in literature known as Robinson Crusoe. He was stranded on a desert island and had to find a way to survive.

While he was on the island he made two lists. One list he called evil and one he called good. He thought over his situation and he entered what was happening to him into one of the two columns. This is what he wrote: œI am stranded on the desert island, which is bad. But I am still alive, which is good. The rest of the people on the ship died, but I survived. Next, he wrote, œI am all alone, which is bad. But I am not starving, which is good.

As he thought further about his situation he wrote, œI have no clothes, which is bad. But, on the other hand, it is so hot here that I do not need clothes, so that is good. Then he wrote, œI have no weapons to defend myself against animals, which is bad. But there are no wild animals along this beach here, so that is good. Finally he wrote, I have no one to talk to, which is bad. But the ship is near the shore and I can get things from the ship for my basic needs, which is good.

After going over his list, Robinson Crusoe decided that there was no situation so terrible that humans could not find a reason to have gratitude to God. There was a silver lining in everything. This attitude is a healthy one and saves a lot of time being anxious, worried, depressed, and disheartened. This time can be used instead to remember God, by staying focused on our spiritual goal. Every time we complain and fret over our situation, we are wasting valuable time.

Two people may go to the same party. One may spend time finding fault with all the people there, complaining about the food, and feeling upset that his or her expectations were not met. Another person may find enjoyment being with the other people and selecting food from the buffet that he or she enjoys. Both are in the same environment. One is finding what is wrong and the other is looking for what is good and joyous. When they both leave the party one will say he or she had a terrible time, and the other will say he or she had a great time. Which one will feel more uplifted and buoyant at the end of the party?

Similarly, each day we face many situations. We can choose to focus on the bad and spend the rest of our time complaining and being disappointed, or we can choose to focus on what is good and take joy and pleasure from it. We can develop spiritually by keeping our attention on being positive and occupying our time with spiritual thoughts. If we choose to occupy ourselves with negative thoughts that rattle around our head, we will waste valuable time that could be spent on remembering God.

Find some good in everything. Even when faced with challenges, we can think of the bright side and make the best use of our precious human life.

Benefits of Walking

  • The human body is made to walk.‚
  • Walking 30 minutes a day cuts the rate of people becoming diabetic by more than half and it cuts the risk of people over 60 becoming diabetic by almost 70 percent.
  • Walking cuts the risk of stroke by more than 25 percent.
  • Walking reduces hypertension. The body has over 100,000 miles of blood vessels. Those blood vessels are more supple and healthier when we walk.
  • Walking cuts the risk of cancer as well as diabetes and stroke.
  • Women who walk have a 20 percent lower likelihood of getting breast cancer and a 31 percent lower risk of getting colon cancer.
  • Women with breast cancer who walk regularly can reduce their recurrence rate and their mortality rate by over 50 percent.
  • The human body works better when we walk. The body resists diseases better when we walk, and the body heals faster when we walk.
  • We don't have to walk a lot. Thirty minutes a day has a huge impact on our‚health.
  • Men who walk thirty minutes a day have a significantly lower level of prostate cancer. Men who walk regularly have a 60 percent lower risk of colon cancer.
  • For men with prostate cancer, studies have shown that walkers have a 46 percent lower mortality rate.
  • Walking also helps prevent depression, and people who walk regularly are more likely to see improvements in their depression.
  • In one study, people who walked and took medication scored twice as well in 30 days as the women who only took the medication. Another study showed that depressed people who walked regularly had a significantly higher level of not being depressed in a year compared to depressed people who did not walk. The body generates endorphins when we walk. Endorphins help us feel good.
  • Walking strengthens the heart. Walking strengthens bones.
  • Walking improves the circulatory system.
  • Walking generates positive neurochemicals. Healthy eating is important but dieting can trigger negative neurochemicals and can be hard to do.
  • Walking generates positive neurochemicals. People look forward to walking and enjoy walking.
  • And research shows that fit beats fat for many people. Walking half an hour a day has health benefits that exceed the benefits of losing 20 pounds.
  • When we walk every day, our bodies are healthier and stronger. A single 30 minute walk can reduce blood pressure by five points for over 20 hours.
  • Walking reduces the risk of blood clots in your legs.
  • People who walk regularly have much lower risk of deep vein thrombosis.
  • People who walk are less likely to catch colds, and when people get colds, walkers have a 46 percent shorter symptom time from their colds.
  • Walking improves the health of our blood, as well. Walking is a good boost of high density cholesterol and people with high levels of HDL are less likely to have heart attacks and stroke.
  • Walking significantly diminishes the risk of hip fracture and the need for gallstone surgery is 20 to 31 percent lower for walkers.
  • Walking is the right thing to do.ÂThe best news is that the 30 minutes doesn't have to be done in one lump of time. Two 15 minute walks achieve the same goals. Three 10 minute walks achieve most of those goals.
  • We can walk 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes at night and achieve our walking goals.
  • Walking feels good. It helps the body heal. It keeps the body healthy. It improves our biological health, our physical health, our psychosocial health, and helps with our emotional health. Walking can literally add years entire years to your life.
Its good to walk.
Be good to yourself. Be good to your body.

The Three Types of People

A teacher shows three toys to a student and asks the student to find out the differences. All the three toys are seemed to be identical in their shape, size and material. After keen observation, the student observes holes in the toys. 1st toy it has holes in the ears. 2nd toy has holes in ear and mouth. 3rd toy has only one hole in one ear.

Than with the help of needle the student puts the needle in the ear hole of 1st toy. The needle comes out from the other ear. In the 2nd toy, when the needle was put in ear the needle came out of mouth. And in the 3rd toy, when the needle was put in, the needle did not come out.

First toy represent those people around you who gives an impression that they are listening to you, all your things and care for you. But they just pretend to do so. After listening, as the needle comes out from the next ear, the things you said to them by counting on them are gone. So be careful while you are speaking to this type of people around you, who does not care for you.

Second toy represent those people who listens to you all your things and gives an impression that they care for you. But as in the toy, the needle comes out from mouth. These people will use your things and the words you tell them against you by telling it to others and bringing out the confidential issues for their own purpose.

Third toy, the needle does not come out from it. These kinds of people will keep the trust you have in them. They are the ones who you can count on.

Moral: Always stay in a company of a people who are loyal and trustworthy. People, who listen to what you tell them, are not always the ones you can count on when you need them the most.

13 Tips for a Great Nights Sleep

The most important lesson you can take from this article is to wake up at the same time Monday to Sunday.
Get out of bed the same time each day even if you have a
great social life.
I ll admit I dont always rise from the depths of my bed the same time each day, but I have a solid understanding of how much sleep I need to get through the day with good energy. If you have good body awareness and go to bed at five in the morning, usually you can set an alarm at nine, for example, even if your usual wake up time is seven oclock.
If your sleep patterns arent ideal, however, its vital you wake up at the same time regardless of how much sleep you got the previous day. When youre changing your sleeping habits, dont mess with your wake up time. This is the key secret to cure insomnia

With the principles Ive shared up to this point as foundations for a great nights sleep, here are thirteen additional tips to cure many sleep problems and help you quickly fall asleep “ no need to count sheep:
  1. Exercise for 30 minutes a day. You must spend energy to receive energy. I dont care how tired you feel “ you must exercise. People who exercise have better body temperature cycles suitable for quality sleep and are more energetic. If you dont exercise at all, youll feel sluggish throughout the day because your body temperature remains stagnant. Dont exercise too late in the day, however, otherwise youre body temperature will be too high for good sleep.
  2. Get 15 minutes of sunlight a day. If you struggle to rack up a few minutes in the sun each day, youre not sleeping as well as you could be. Your internal body clock uses sunlight to control its energy levels. Light makes you awake while darkness releases melatonin to make you sleepy. Get outside and at least open your curtains to absorb some
    light for better sleep.
  3. Stay away from caffeine and alcohol six hours before bedtime. I use to think a cup of coffee two hours before bedtime didnt keep me awake “ actually, I thought it helped me get to sleep from the energy crash and it did. However, these drinks disrupt later sleep cycles so youll get poor sleep.
  4. Quit smoking. Nicotine is a stimulant. Also, smokers can experience nicotine withdrawal during the night that disrupts sleep. Your body will thank you in more ways than better sleep once you quit sucking down that crap. Ive never been a smoker, but Allen Carr
The Easy Way to Stop Smoking
seems to be a miracle book for many smokers.
  5. Stay away from television and computer games before bedtime. Ive found I wont sleep no matter how tired I am until one hour has passed since playing a computer game or watching television.
  6. Dont take sleeping pills. Im not a doctor so you should consult with a doctor before following the advice in this article. If you want to be scared from taking sleeping pills ever again, read about the
    dark side of sleeping pills.
  7. Get a nice bed. You spend one-third of your time in bed so make yourself comfortable. Make sure you have plenty of room to stretch out even if youre huge like me!
  8. Eliminate sensory input. Make your bedroom as dark as possible and get outside noises to a minimum. A towel under a door helps with both. Ive found a sleeping mask to be a miracle for light rooms and improving the quality of my sleep  just be aware you could sleep more than usual because natural sunlight wont get into your eyes.
  9. Make your room a good temperature with ventilation. If youre in a hot room with bad ventilation, expect bad sleep. You wont fall asleep when youre hot unless youe really tired. The body best falls asleep often in cooler temperatures. Open your windows if you can to let in cool air. If you get cold, put on more blankets. Fresh oxygen is vital for good sleep. Experiment with the room temperature best for you. A thermostat to measure your ideal room temperate and a fan to cool you down and ventilate the room will improve your sleep and give you more energy.
  10. Checkout the End Tiredness Program. In it you discover how to manage jet lag, shift work, and eliminate tiredness. You can learn about it
    here.
  11. Find your
    sleeping personality
. Im a fetus on my right side! I ve noticed that 95% of the time I wont fall asleep until Im in that position, which feels the most comfortable.
  12. Build a relaxing sleep routine. Try yoga, reading, or visualizations, for example, to see what relaxation techniques you like. Do these consistently before going to bed and youll notice you fall asleep without worry-filled thoughts clogging your mind.
  13. Change what isnt working. If you lay in bed for 20 minutes and do not feel sleepy maybe because your mind is rushing, do something else. Things that have worked for me include eating a light meal because a hungry stomach can keep me awake, drinking water, visualizations like tensing then releasing all the muscles in my body from head to toe, reading, or doing some non-stimulating activity until I feel tired.
Follow this advice and youll wake up refreshed with heaps of energy ready to create the reality you desire!

Love Your Parents

An 80 year old man was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his 45 years old highly educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window.

The Father asked his Son, "What is this?" The Son replied "It is a crow". After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time, "What is this?" The Son said "Father, I have just now told you "It's a crow". After a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time, What is this?" At this time some ex-pression of irritation was felt in the Son's tone when he said to his Father with a rebuff. "It's a crow, a crow".A little after, the Father again asked his Son t he 4th time, "What is
this?"

This time the Son shouted at his Father, "Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times 'IT IS A CROW'. Are you not able to understand this?"

A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary :-

"Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent child".

While the little child asked him 23 times "What is this", the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed.

So..

If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to them a gracious word, be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents. From today say this aloud, "I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me ever since I was a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on me.

They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and heat to make me a person presentable in the society today". Say a prayer to God, "I will serve my old parents in the BEST way. I will say all good and kind words to my dear parents, no matter how they behave.

What is Happiness?

A rich man in order to be happy, went on searching for it, travelling different countries. He was still not happy. He chased wine, women and other addictions…but his heart was devoid of happiness.
Someone told him that there was happiness in a life of renunciation. So, he decided to try that too. He packed all his wealth, the treasure stored in his house, all diamonds, precious stones, gold …..
He took the bundle and placed it at the feet of yogi and said, `Swamiji! I am placing all my wealth at your feet! I don't need them anymore. I only seek peace of mind and happiness! Where is peace?' saying thus, he fell at the feet of the yogi in total surrender.

The yogi did not seem to heed his words at all. He hurriedly opened the bundle and checked the contents. It was full of dazzling diamonds, glittering gold. On viewing these, the yogi tied up the bundle and ran with it.
The rich man was extremely shocked. `Oh, no! I have surrendered to a cheat, a pseudo Godman! What a blunder!' he thought. His sadness turned into anger and he went behind the yogi in hot pursuit.
The yogi was unable to run fast. He went into all the lanes and by-lanes, but finally reached the place from where he had started his run…under the tree. The rich man also reached the same place, panting hard. Before he uttered a word, the yogi said, `hey, did you get scared that I would abscond with your wealth? Here, take it! I have no need for it…keep it for yourself!' and returned the bundle to him.
The rich man was very happy that he got back his `lost' wealth. `Here is peace', said the yogi. The yogi further added, `You see, all this wealth was with you even before you came here. But you did not derive joy from them. It is the same wealth that is with you now…but you have found a great joy in your heart! So where did the happiness come from…from wealth or within you?
It is clear from the story that joy and happiness are not outside us. They are within us!
Just like the rich man went roaming around with the bundle of wealth, many of us do not realise the truth. That is the reason why we look up to others for our happiness.
When the boss appreciates our work, `Good, you did a fine job!' we literally float. When he utters a word of criticism, all happiness deserts us! So we become a football to be kicked by others.

Here are some examples:
A drunkard lay down in the street, fully intoxicated and senseless. His friend who happened to come by said to him jokingly, `Hey, I had gone to your house. I found that that your wife has become a widow. So go home and console her!'
The drunkard was very upset. `Oh, no!' My wife has become a widow!' He began to cry. `How can your wife become a widow when you are alive?' consoled a passer-by. The drunkard answered, `but my friend told me that my wife has become a widow. He is my close friend and how can I disbelieve him?' the drunkard continued to cry. Our sorrow is similar to that of the drunkard. Even though he experienced sorrow, it was illegitimate as it was born out of ignorance.
In each of us there is a drunkard. Many things which are not really true make us miserable. At other times, matters which are of no real significance, rob us of our happiness.

A farmer has a bumper crop of tomatoes in one season. Yet the farmer seemed to be very worried. His neighbours enquired of him the reason for his worry. He replied, `Normally, I feed my pigs with tomatoes.' The neighbours enquired, `'What is the problem? You have a bumper crop this time!' to which the farmer replied, `Yes. I have a bumper crop; but I do not have a single rotten tomato to offer to my pigs. What will I feed them with?'

To put it simply, happiness is like a lock, intelligence is like a key. If you turn the key of intelligence in the opposite direction, it would lock up happiness. If you turn it in the right direction, the doors of happiness open!

How to Reduce Your Cholesterol Levels!

The body is an amazing system, and if a healthy body creates cholesterol, then it is indeed an essential material in our bodies:
- Cholesterol is used to build needed steroids.
- Cholesterol is used to build hormones like estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
- Cholesterol is vital for the creation of vitamin D.
- The membrane of every cell in our body contains cholesterol.
When there's too much cholesterol
A situation of higher than normal levels of cholesterol can be worrying, because it may build inside the blood vessels and cause coronary diseases, which may lead to heart attacks or stroke.
As of today, the normal range of cholesterol in the body is up to 200 mg.
The common medicine to take care of additional cholesterol delay the enzyme that takes part in the process of creating cholesterol in the liver so in fact we limit the rate of building our own cholesterol. But is it logical for us to limit the internal creation of cholesterol without addressing the external source? Nutrition will always be at the forefront of dealing with a surplus of cholesterol.
How can we reduce the levels of cholesterol?
- Reducing or eliminating animal foods: Beef, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy products and especially foods rich in fat and cholesterol.

Consuming Phytosterolsthat come from vegetation. Phytosterols have a similar chemical structure to cholesterol and because of this similarity they both compete for absorption by the lower intestine, and so consuming them will reduce the amount of cholesterol absorbed.  A good daily amount would be 1.5-2.5 grams a day.
Best sources for Phytosterols: Sesame oil and corn oil but also grains, nuts and seeds: wheat germ, flax seed, wheat bran, peanuts, almonds and cashews, fruits and vegetables: beets, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, onions, oranges and legumes: peas and beans. Legumes and grains are a good source of proteins instead of the fat rich foods.
- Staying away from trans-fats. Trans fat also appears as vegetable oil that has gone through hydrogenation in order to make it harder. This fat is not recommended at all and you'd be best staying clear of it. It is mainly found in processed foods such as margarine, puff pastry, pastries such as croissants, and processed cakes and cookies.
A few more tips...
- Consuming anti-oxidants will help limit the oxidation of cholesterol and consuming them will help getting the cholesterol off  the artery walls.
- Consuming soluble fibers, which are abundant in full wheat products, oatmeal, vegetables and fruit. These absorb conversion salts in the digestion system and the body then uses cholesterol to make new ones, thus reducing the amount of cholesterol in the blood stream.
- Daily exercise.  We know it's tough, but you'll thank us when you get less bad cholesterol, and more good cholesterol.

Life Changing Tips

Let Go
Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.

Nothing Is Impossible
You must find the place inside yourself where nothing is impossible.

Embrace the Unknown
Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.

Go with the Flow
Don't try to steer the river.

Embrace Stillness
In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you.

Live a Conscious Life
The way you think, the way you behave, the way you eat, can influence your life by 30 to 50 years.

Find Your Purpose
There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle.

 Let Go of Your Ego
If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time.

Embrace Your Current Relationships
Whatever relationships you have attracted in your life at this moment, are precisely the ones you need in your life at this moment. There is a hidden meaning behind all events, and this hidden meaning is serving your own evolution.

Be Open To All Possibilities
Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.

The physical world as we see it is not reality the true nature of reality is pure potential

Transforming Reaction To Response

In its original form, anger was not anger, not a reaction; rather it was the energy of a response to people and situations, but the response gradually changed to reaction. When we return to our spiritual identity, we begin to rediscover that capacity to be still, stable or centred, and we are able to respond positively even to negative situations, or people. With spiritual consciousness, the energy of this negative reaction is transformed into being able to accept, understand and deal wisely and peacefully with whoever, or whatever, is encountered.

In order to extinguish (overcome) anger, one has to use peace and silence, to understand that peace is the original state of one's being; to remember that 'I am a peaceful being' means to emerge the consciousness of non-violence.

Silence, that is learning to put a brake on the mind and tongue, helps us to think before speaking and, as a result, saves us from many confrontations with others.

Perseverance

Many of us have high regard for Japanese products that are sold all over the world. Many American and European companies have mortal fear of the invasion of Japanese products
in their markets.
Let us take an example of the Honda Company, a leading automobile manufacturer.
If one traces the roots of the company, one can find the perseverance of a very simple and ordinary Japanese man called Honda.
Honda was a simple person. He attempted to design a new type of piston to improve the performance of the cars.
He was sure his attempt would yield path breaking results. He offered his designs to Toyota.
The engineers turned his offer down, without even meeting him. But he did not lose heart. His repeated attempts at meeting Toyota engineers finally succeeded;
but only to see his product ridiculed by them. Not loosing heart, he went in great detail to convince them. At last he obtained an order to supply pistons to Toyota.
Honda invested all his resources – money, materials,
knowledge, hard work as capital and constructed a plant for producing pistons. Suddenly there was an earth quake in Japan that destroyed his factory.
Yet, Honda reposed faith in his own ability!
Once again, he started construction afresh.
When it was ready and the production was to start the following week, world War II broke out.. bombs bombarded Japan and most of the country was devastated and
so was Honda's factory!
Although Honda lost his factory, property, wealth and friends, he did not lose his self-confidence. He continued his efforts and began to construct his factory for the third time.
Today, the Honda Car Company produces and sells more cars than Toyota. Honda was not only an example for the word `perseverance' but also added honour to it!
Most of us wilt when faced with minor setbacks. We back out when problems recur. Let us study successful people.
Successful people are always a part of a solution, not victims to problems. This is seen clearly from the life of Honda.
Einstein was dismissed from school with a remark that he was a dullard. Had he given up then, the world would never have known the greatest scientist of all times
Norma Jean Baker was a young girl who aspired to be a model. The modeling company rejected her; instead offered her the post of a clerk…..
If she had buried her dreams of becoming a model, a wonderful film artiste called Marilyn Monroe would never have been the dream girl of many.
Music was the breath for Beethoven – a German musician. His hearing was impaired. At the age of forty-six, it became worse and finally he turned totally deaf.
For a great musician, nothing could be more devastating than this. Any commoner would have been completely distressed. But Beethoven overcame the handicap.
He created great compositions of music that included five rare symphonies.
A newspaper owner told a young artist to pursue any other vocation saying he did not possess creative original ideas. However, the young artist went on to build
the Walt Disney Empire through his original idea of Mickey Mouse.
In 1962, the Decca Recording Company turned down the work of Beatles. The Beatles turned out to be such great singers.

`We will succeed' – the desire should burn like ember within us. The ember of enthusiasm should never be put off.
In order to reach the peak of successes, it is but natural that one has to face many impediments. Just as mountaineers face all hurdles like stones, thorns,
wild beat, cold, snowstorms… one has to face difficulties while progressing towards success. If one gets disheartened and withdraws from the goal,
the joy of success would be unattainable!

Strength of Character

"Neither money pays, nor name, nor fame, nor learning; it is CHARACTER that can cleave
through the adamantine walls of difficulties"

 -- Swami Vivekananda

There is a popular saying, "If wealth is lost nothing is lost, if health is lost something is lost, but if character is lost everything is lost". But today what we see in society is quite the contrary. Money is playing a dominant role in the present society. People are prepared to do anything for money, they can go to any extent, and they are least bothered about the means. They are busy amassing wealth even at the cost of others. Their hearts are dead. They are living corpses. They have no compassion, love or sympathy for other human beings. Adulteration, cheating, bribery, theft, scams, scandals, dowry harassment, robbery, exploitation are rampant everywhere. Surprisingly they are being perpetuated by the so-called educated people. In the modern educational system, only intellect is being developed but there is no scope for the development of the heart. It is making people more and more selfish and greedy. Swami Vivekanand observed this and said, "Bring light to the ignorant, and more light to the educated, for the vanities of the education of our time are tremendous."

In the midst of chaos and confusion, here and there we come across a few great characters who have left their marks through their wonderful contribution. Among such we have a most celebrated personality, Sir Mokshagundam Visweswarayya, a great engineer produced by India in the last century. He is a bright example to our youth. He lived for 102 years and was full of enthusiasm, zeal and energy, almost till the end of his life. His dedication, sincerity, hard work, skills, integration, honesty, spirit of service, patriotism, and above all his undaunted courage and disciplined life made him a unique personality. He was awarded the highest civilian award, `Bharat Ratna', for his great contribution to our motherland. His biographer writes, "His was an unblemished pure life. No blemish could be traced in his long career. When on duty he would use Government vehicle, otherwise his own car. He never used Government paper and stationary for personal and non official correspondence. When in doubt, whether it was Government paper or not, he would examine in bright light to detect the embossed mark, `government stationary'. When he was asked about the eradication of poverty, he said, `poverty is not natural. It is unnatural. It is curable like any other disease. Ignorance, dependence, inefficiency, laziness, want of the spirit of enterprise are the real causes of poverty.

Gandhiji's slogan was `Industrialise and perish', where as Sir Visweswarayya's slogan was `Industrialise or perish. Both were right: one was emphasizing human values, other material prosperity. Swami Vivekananda came to harmonise these two apparent contradictory views. He encouraged Sir Jamshedji Tata to establish heavy industries in India, and asked Mysore Maharaja to help Jamshedji by way of providing land and infrastructure for the same. Swamiji wanted India to be great in every field, but not at the cost of long cherished values and culture. He was sure unless we combine both these there cannot be real progress. The education which provides us both these aspects was real education, according to him. He said, "What we want are Western science coupled with Vedanta as the guiding motto and also shraddha and faith in one's own self."

Unfortunately, after independence, we are mostly concentrating on only one aspect, which is western science; the other one is completely neglected. In the name of secularism, we have carefully avoided long-cherished values which our ancestors lived for and practised. Due to lack of character energy, we have converted human beings into machines. Every year we are manufacturing thousands of Doctors, engineers, Lawyers, Managers, Administrators but not real human beings. Human values such as love, compassion, peace, happiness, truthfulness, honesty, sincerity, contentment, non-violence, patriotism, fearlessness, confidence, courage, self-restraint are replaced by hatred, cruelty, deceit, greed, dishonesty, lust, anger, fear, cowardice, selfishness, violence etc, which has created a vacuum in the hearts of people. We have never seen in the history such a degradation of human values.

Forgiveness means forgiving our self

When we hold resentment against someone, it becomes a very strong negative emotional link, we are bound to them. The one who lets it go, will set them self free.

Forgiveness means forgiving our self by letting go of the resentment we have held on to. Even if the other person forgives us, we will remain in pain till we let go of the past negative experience.

Forgiveness does not only mean we are behaving and talking as before. It means we have healed our hurt, have understood the other person’s perspective and do not hold them responsible for our pain.

Do not be angry with people for not forgiving us. Understand they are still in pain and do not have the courage to interact again because they fear that they may get hurt again. Send vibrations of love and compassion which will help to heal them.
Earlier when we experienced pain, we blamed others for it and wanted them to change so that we would be happy. Now we are aware - we are in pain, we are the creator of the pain and we have to heal our self, so it is complete self responsibility.
When we blame others for our state of being, we are giving our power to them. We also become dependent on them to heal us.

People have the power to affect everything that is outside of us – our work, money, property and even our body. But people do not have the power to affect our mind; that is completely in our control.

Healing is not an overnight process. It is a daily cleansing of pain. Be aware of your reactions in situations. Appreciate yourself for all the right responses. When a negative sanskar comes into action, do not justify it, prepare yourself to do it differently the next time.

To change any habit we take care of 4 aspects. Gyan – Knowledge, Yog – Meditation, Dharna -Inculcation and Seva - Sharing.
Study of spiritual knowledge in the morning and attention on application in situations is Dharna.  We shift from reactive behaviors to consciously responding from our original qualities of peace, love and respect.

Share the knowledge with others through words, actions and vibrations.  When we bring our qualities into action or radiate pure thoughts to others, it is Seva.

Meditation means connecting to the Supreme Power, God and taking His powers and love to heal our blockages, and emerge our original sanskars.

When we take a decision

When we take a decision, it has to be according to our capacity to face the situation. We need to take the decision with full awareness of our sanskars which can make it easy or difficult to implement the decision.

When we give decisions or ask others for decisions, it may go wrong. The one giving the decision is giving according to THEIR sanskars which may be completely different from the sanskars of the one implementing the decision. The right decision of the giver may be a failure for the one to whom it has been given.

Do not take decisions for others. Be detached and see all the probable consequences of their decisions. Show them all the options possible and leave the decision to them.

Make others aware of their sanskars which they are not using. Empower them to use their positive sanskars to face the situation, then they will take the right decision.

The more we ask others to take decisions for us, our own decision making power will reduce.
When the decision is ours, we put in more than our capacity to implement the decision. We do not blame anyone, instead take personal responsibility for the consequences of the decision and face them with power and stability.
If people ask us to do something, let us not do if FOR THEM. Always remember, they are important to us, their happiness matters to us, so we are doing it for the harmony in our relationship. Decision is for our happiness, not THEIRS.
However challenging the situation may be, the decision we take IS OUR CHOICE. We can never say I had no choice. The decision is ours, karma is ours, karmic account is ours and the return of the karma is our responsibility.

Two souls are different, not right or wrong

When the other person is right according to their perspective and we feel they are wrong, conflict has begun. Two souls are different, not right or wrong. Each is always right from their perspective.

Empathy means to detach from your own perspective and see the situation from the perspective of the other person. This creates understanding and compassion.

Even if we cannot understand the other persons perspective, let us always remember that what they are saying is the truth for them. This is the first step towards conflict resolution.

Accept your negative sanskar or the sanskar of the other person. Acceptance means no negative thoughts and energy of love keeps flowing. This love and power helps to create a new sanskar. Acceptance is the first step to Realisation and Transformation.

If there is a strain in any relationship, then definitely we are creating wrong quality of thoughts for them. We need to clean our thoughts; else even the best words and behavior will not get the right result.

To begin healing any relationship, do not focus on their behavior, words or what they think about us. Let us take care that we are creating the right thoughts and behavior towards them. If one person changes, it will influence the other and healing begins.

When we are adjusting to sanskars of the other person, we need to remember, they are also adjusting with our sanskars. Two souls will always have different sanskars and will find the others sanskars uncomfortable.

Accept the other persons sanskar, which means remain stable. Now help them to create a new sanskar and give them time to do it.

ACCEPTING that whatever happens is the best for this moment.

Positive thinking is not about EXPECTING the best to happen every time, but ACCEPTING that whatever happens is the best for this moment.

Positive thinking means right thinking at every moment. Visualising the best to happen, but then accepting the result and creating the right thoughts irrespective of what the outcome may be.

Positive thinking does not mean what will happen, will be the best; it means whatever will happen, will be accurate for me; according to my sanskars and past karmic accounts.

Accepting the outcome of the situation, keeps us stable at that moment. We retain the strength, confidence and motivation to put in our best in the next moment.

When someone has made a mistake, they are in pain. We feel they have done wrong, and we are in pain because of their mistake. Truth is they are in more pain than anyone else.

The one who has made a mistake creates guilt, low self confidence, low self esteem, fear of rejection and insecurity of future. If we create anger, hurt and hatred then we are increasing their pain many folds. They need love and acceptance to heal their pain.

A person goes towards any substance addiction because either they are deprived of love; or crisis in life; or low self esteem and seeking public approval for feeling good. Help them to heal the pain in order to give up the addiction.

The intention should be reformation not punishment. Anger gives punishment, depletes the energy of the one who has made a mistake.  Love empowers them and brings about reformation.

Always Trust Your Intuition!

The moral of the story is you may be right but be careful how hard you push to prove it
